Healthworkers across Victoria are taking action online today to demand stronger commitments from their state's decision makers. This follows a day of action outside Victoria's Parliament House last month where an open letter signed by 28 health organisations and over 200 health workers was delivered.
Clean Energy for Health campaign
Health workers and community members have been writing messages and uploading them on social media tagging the relevant government and shadow MPs. Together they're making the voices of the health community heard loud and clear. The World Health Organization recommends that countries like ours quit coal by 2030 and the international climate science suggests this is the latest date if we are to keep global warming below the 1.5 degree threshold.
Tasmania and the ACT have already met their 100% renewables by 2030 targets and South Australia are on the way. It's time the big states follow suit.
Today's digital action is building on momentum from last month's action on Parliament steps with participants also sending their messages to decision makers, including:
Dr Anita Muñoz, Victorian Chair of the Royal Australian College of GPs
Dr Magdalena Simonis, President of the Australian Federation of Medical Women
Dr Annabelle Warren, Endocrinologist
Join in the online action!
The day of coordinated online action is Tuesday 11 October, however, any time before November's state election is a good time to send a message to the Victorian government and opposition.
